More than eight years after the closure of most of its stores across Canada, Zellers is back -- sort of.in Burlington Ont. But experts are divided over whether the pop-up could bring the long-gone discount retail brand back to life.
An HBC spokesperson told CTV News Winnipeg last month that the pop-up was designed to "delight our customers with a fun and nostalgic experience with one of HBC's most beloved brands." In 2011, HBC concluded that Zellers was no longer financially viable and sold its leaseholds for the majority of its Zellers stores to Target for $1.8 billion. At the time, the company was down to 273 stores.
"The markets changed since they've left. I mean, Walmart has gotten significantly stronger. Amazon is now incredibly strong, and other folks like Canadian Tire and Costco have really upped their game," he said. "They can make Zellers their pop-up 'last chance, too good to be true' brand, and I think they've got a brand name that will capture that boomer who still likes to shop in physical stores."
They should bring back KMART stores and other stores with reasonable prices like Towers stores or woolco stores we need more affordable stores and prices.
Always love going to Zellers on Spark Street during my lunch hour.

I honestly loved working at Zellers, did it for 7 or so years, mostly graveyard shift. Just threw on a pair of headphones and jammed all night stocking shelves, moving skids around.. fun times.

I loved Zellers I could always find things that I needed that I couldn’t find anywhere else! And Target bombed in Canada or at least here in Quebec! POS ! Bring back Zellers! And I live in Montreal! I can shop anywhere 😂

I no longer live in Canada, but when I did, I worked at Zellers and loved it! people don't get why I love Zellers, it's the bzillion stuff they had on offer and the club Z points was the best!
