Alan Hughes has defended Ireland AM after a viewer complained at him giggling over a remark about a ‘sugary rim’.
And commenting on the issue, Alan urged fans to remember that during a live TV broadcast, “things are going to go wrong”.“That is the nature of the beast and that is the nature of the show and we do have a laugh with it and a bit of fun. “I mean if you were just to be there going ‘no we can’t say that that might offend someone’ you’d never say anything.“And it might be the blandest comment but people are watching the show and they have their opinion on things, so you just have to do what you think best.”
Alan was speaking from Spain, where he is celebrating the weekend away with his husband Karl Broderick to mark their ten year wedding anniversary. He said: “We had been looking at a number of places to try and find a new show and when we went to the national stadium we just loved it, it was such a mini arena for us. It was just perfect and we thought ‘this is it, this is home’.“And then the money that is created from it for them goes back into Irish boxing and to youth boxing which is great. It could be helping the next Kellie Harrington or Katie Taylor.He added: “We are doing Aladdin and it is just going to be one of our best ever.
Gave up watching it when they got rid of quality presenters they had watch the more grown up show over on itv which thankfully we still can recive here in dublin
