Queensland's human rights watchdog has called for the state government to take a more consistent and transparent approach when considering COVID-19 border exemptions, saying some requests favoured people with a media profile. The human rights commissioner said his office had fielded hundreds of complaints over the handling of exemptionsHe says home quarantine options need to be explored
Human Rights Commissioner Scott McDougall told ABC Radio Brisbane his office had fielded hundreds of complaints over strict COVID-19 requirements and restrictions, arguing some of which favoured celebrities and people in the media. "We had some complaints where people were wanting to come back to Queensland for dying parents and they were presenting proposals that, on the face of it, seem to address all of the risk issues," he said."We've had several high-profile examples where people have been able to convince Queensland Health that they should be granted an exemption.
