West End musical-turned feature-film Everybody's Talking About Jamie is already making waves across the world, with the story of 16-year-old Sheffield schoolboy-turned-drag queen Jamie New capturing everyone's hearts.
Though originally intended for a short run at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, it was the transferred to the Apollo Theatre in London's West End, where it still runs today. Jamie, who performed as drag queen alter-ego Fifi la True up until recently, told us that it was important to him that the movie captured British humour perfectly, and had an accurate representation of the working class.
The musical had originally opened in Sheffield, and Jamie explained he was so happy to see the north of England represented for once. Despite the film being inspired by his own story, Jamie is clear about the fact this isn't a biopic, and the Jamie New character wasn't created to be one hundred per cent accurate to his own personal story.
"Pretti was made up", he said, adding that: "she's loosely based on my friend Sam, who appeared in my documentary.
