American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish made a bold statement with her impressive ball gown at the Met Gala.

The 19-year-old attended the A-lister event in an Oscar de la Renta dress inspired by Marilyn Monroe's 1951 Academy Awards look.

Eilish, who is a vegan and animal rights activist, said if she was to wear the Oscar de la Renta dress they would have to stop their production of animal fur products, the“It was an honour to wear this dress knowing that going forward Oscar de la Renta will be completely fur-free!,” Eilish wrote on Instagram.

The designer brand will now terminate all fur sales and while it has been years since creative directors Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim used animal fur, the company still sold fur products in stores. "I thought a lot about what Oscar said - he was a big fan of fur, by the way - that the one thing he really worried about in the fashion business was his eye getting old,” he said.
