The Senate on Monday passed on third and final reading a bill that aims to rename Roosevelt Avenue in Quezon City after the late movie actor Fernando Poe Jr.

Poe ran for president in the May 2004 elections but lost to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. He died on Dec. 14, 2004 after suffering a stroke.Twenty senators voted 'yes' with no negative vote. The movie icon's daughter, Sen. Mary Grace Poe, was the only one who abstained.

The senator thanked her colleagues for supporting HB 7499, especially Sen. Emmanuel 'Manny' Pacquiao, who sponsored its passage.'It is so heartwarming to see your reactions. I purposely abstained because of our rule that it might be a conflict of interest but in my heart, I am so happy that this [was] passed,' Poe said.

I applaud this bill. Great job MannyPacquiao. Mabuhay ka! All colonial-named street names should be renamed to those of remarkable Filipinas or Filipinos.
