Even more understated moments have an importance of their own. Case in point: the boys of the show.
The character most fun to play around with was hands down Julien. An influencer and style icon throughout the halls of Constance Billard, it’s expected that Julien would not only slay the trends but also set them. “Jordan in real life is a very loving and free person, and very trusting to whatever I feel like is going to work, so she sort of just lets me create on her face,” Amy says.
An exciting conversation that erupted in pre-production was surrounding Jordan’s hairstyle for the show. As she rocks a bald head in real life, it raised the question of whether or not that fitted her character on screen. Jennifer was on board to keep it, and understandably so. The shaved head — while much different than the classic Serena blowouts many have come to love from the queen of Constance Billard — adds to her coolness factor and is very in line with Gen Z style trends.
“We were supposed to start and of course, COVID happens,” Jennifer explains. “So we got pushed nine months, and in that time, Jordan had grown her hair out a little. So we kind of went back and forth if we were going to keep it that way. But her buzzed head—I thought it was just so bold. I was here for it, and I was happy they were here for it, too.”
That doesn’t mean Jennifer’s job was done there: As the season progressed, she continuously played around more and more with Julien’s look, adding various gems and embellishments to her hair. “We got creative with what we could do with a shaved head.”Another interesting character to play around with was Zoya. As the new girl, she gets to go on a deeper style journey and evolution throughout the series, compared to other characters like Luna and Monet who have already grounded their beauty roots.
