Kate Beckinsale shares old clip of her late dad appearing in Coronation Street

The Underworld star is the youngest daughter of Richard Beckinsale, best known for his roles in the 1970s sitcoms Porridge and Rising Damp.

The latest showed him in an episode of Coronation Street from 1969, in which he played a police officer who ended up arresting long-running character Ena Sharples, played by Violet Carson. Kate shared the black-and-white footage on her Instagram account earlier today, captioning it: “My dad having arrested Ena Sharples is, I realise, the main swagger I have in life.”

Others commented that the footage was “brilliant” and “funny,” with one follower responding: “Wow. What a gem of a find.”
