The Power of Plus’s official relaunch starts on July 19 with a celebratory video of the #PowerfullyMe mission, featuring a group of trailblazing voices in the plus-size fashion industry like, Gabi Gregg, Nicolette Mason, Lauren Chan, Kristine Thompson, Meg Boggs, Sesali Bowen, Sean Taylor, and Lydia Okello.
While Instagram is a great place for promoting conversation along with shareable, bite-sized content, The Power of Plus is looking ahead to a wider digital and IRL presence. In addition to their relaunch campaign, the brand is gearing up to unveil a website that will eventually feature a collection of resources tailor-made for the plus-size community.
“Throughout our work as journalists, Shammara and I both realized that there’s such a need for more resources for plus-size folks. There’s a huge disservice here,” Gianluca explains. With that, the pair is also striving to build a free and accessible directory that goes beyond the fashion world: mental health resources, a comprehensive list of body-positive practitioners, assistance for facing weight discrimination, and more.
As for the future, the duo has their eyes set on continuing their bimonthly panels, with the hopes of adding in-person events and even a possible podcast. They also want to keep expanding their content to continue to include both fashion-centric topics along with other issues affecting the plus-size community. “We want to get everyone the size-inclusive clothes to help you dress your best, but in order toyour best, we need to do more work,” Gianluca says. “That is the work we want to be doing.
