when Warner Bros. announced its entire 2021 film slate would premiere on HBO Max and in theaters on the same day.
Disney declined to comment. However, insiders say the company is attempting to reach customers at every comfort level while the world emerges from COVID. It’s also worth noting the pandemic hasn’t entirely abated, and even vaccinated people have expressed hesitations about returning to the movies. Adding to anxieties, the highly contagious Delta variant has driven a spike in infections and forced Los Angeles, the largest moviegoing market in the country, to reinstate its mask mandate.
Was surfing then laughed that the Evil Mouse wanted $30 for this garbage. Summer of Soul was free on Hulu and worth watching at home but not in a theater.
They are mad because BW is in profit because of D+ order
I guess they’ll have to “go make their own blockbuster superhero titles”?
Lmao.... Hbo max launched and theatres still alive. Furthermore, Disney plus even charged extra for the streaming via the applications but still the complaints going on. Then how they want to make money. BLACKWIDOW
Nobody owes these movie theatres a living. They’re lucky they got a piece at all.
It seems that the new norm will be a hybrid mix of theater / vod, streaming...
The 'problem' is that Disney didn't lose money at all. BlackWidow is a huge success anyway, gaining either by DisneyPlus or by theaters. There's no more difference (sadly).
Well between streaming for a one time payment or piracy, people are picking the easy route. Notbto mention the constant threat of masking and lockdowns. California didn’t help matters by enforcing a mask mandate . Why go out when home is just easier.
Sour grapes.
It was a bone head move. So damn greedy they cut their own noses off to spite their faces.
If a movie is released on a streaming platform or VOD for viewing and simultaneously released in the theatre, less people will want to see it in the theatre because they can watch at home. Disney still made money on Disney Plus but the second week drop in the theatre was steep.
They're pissed because families aren't coming to the theater because even with Disney+ charging $30, it's way cheaper for them
No they didn’t. They just didn’t have to share the cut with theater chains and owners.
It’s dropped because it’s an average movie unfortunately. Word of mouth has hurt its numbers. Natasha is one of my fav characters but I was left disappointed. So much unnecessary poorly executed CGI action and very little story. Completely skimmed over Budapest 😞
What? F9 dropped like 66% its second weekend without day and date. What did they say then? Maybe those 2nd weekend drops are gonna be the norm for the time being.
ArmyofWomack Except that it was $30 on top of a Disney Plus subscription

Disney is making a fortune. Movie theaters are over. They just don't know it yet.
We get it the are upset, but Disney is still making money.
They wouldn’t pull that BS on a leading man. Just sayin’
Or...it was a bad movie, and word of mouth got out that it sucked, so people didn't go to see it?
But 1 hit SPACE JAM 2 was it's competition. That was on HBO MAX too. Maybe BLACK WIDOW is too artsy for the mainstream crowds. Did they consider that?
Disney knows what they are doing.
Most definitely.
