Stars of the hugely popular BBC comedy Gavin & Stacey, Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon are said to be filming a new festive comedy special for the BBC set to air at Christmas.Ruth, 54, and Rob, 56, are best known to all as Nessa Jenkins and Bryn West in the BBC’s popular comedy, Gavin & Stacey which was written by Ruth and co-star James Corden.
The new comedy will be directed by Sandy Johnson who has worked with actress Ruth previously on the Sky series Stella and has also worked with Rob when he starred in Supernova, the BBC2 astronomy sitcom. Since the final series of Gavin & Stacey aired in 2010, Ruth went on to star in the Sky programme, Stella which saw her nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Female Comedy Performance and won the BAFT Cymru Award for Best Screenwriter.
Ruth and Rob have been friends for many years before the days of Gavin & Stacey as they met back in their schooldays at Porthcawl Comprehensive and both went on to study at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff.
