When I was 12, there was nothing I wanted more than Britney Spears’ midriff. Lining up, side-by-side in the living room, my girlfriends and I would putin our Sony Discmans and press play simultaneously. We studied 16-year-old Britney’s dance moves. We copied her hair. We coveted her clothes, her boyfriend, her fame, her life … I attended more than one 13th birthday party where half a dozen girls arrived dressed as Britney.
That people close to her have treated Britney Spears abominably is beyond question. But what should we make of the pop star’s unwavering belief that nobody will listen to her? Even now. This is not the first time Spears has spoken publicly about the legal arrangements that reduce her autonomy to that of a child. Is she right to predict that this time will be no different?
We live in a world that is suspect of both women and those with mental ill health. Britney Spears ticks all the boxes. Trapped in a sadistic cycle in which her public complaints or defiance of the conservatorship became further proof that she needed to be subject to it. Spears was gaslit by her agents, her family, the media, and the public, as we collectively dismissed her cries for help from the moment her life began to unravel as the actions and rantings of a “crazy” person.
This was underscored, of course, by her celebrity. Britney Spears was legally robbed of her independence, and her objections fell on ears too distracted by her fame to worry. After all, she is rich, beautiful, and famous. What could she possibly have to complain about that she didn’t bring upon herself? How could her life be anything less than wonderful?

JamilaRizvi She has been for around 20 years. Sad story. I actually teach this to year 7 when we look at pop music and analyze her song Lucky. That song is a cry for help and it was written 21 years ago 😢
JamilaRizvi I'm sure her Father's legal fees are being taken from her money. She's a cash-cow for him & his Lawyers. They've stated that their desire is that she continues to work & perform, with the stress it entails but that they'll control her money & entire life. FreeBritneySpears

JamilaRizvi He father should be in jail. He's abused his position even using millions of her money on lawyer for himself to go on a publicity tour. Not even her mother believes he should be doing what he's doing.
