While promoting his “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” novel on “Real Time With“You’re too young to quit and you’re at the top of your game,” Maher pushed.

“That’s why I want to quit,” Tarantino said over a cheering audience. “Because I know film history and from here on end, directors do not get better.” Maher responded that they got started in the industry around the same time, but that he would not quit while at a career peak. He further assured Tarantino that “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” is his best film to date. The film, an homage to Hollywood’s golden age, earned 10 Academy Award nominations and won a best picture Golden Globe.

“I don’t have a reason that I would want to say out loud that’s going to win any argument in the court of public opinion or supreme court or anything like that,” Tarantino explained. “At the same time, working for 30 years doing as many movies as I’ve done is not as many as other people but that’s a long career. That’s a really long career. And I’ve given it everything I have.

Quentin Tarantino is the Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Gail Sayers, ect. of his time.

Except for Tony Scott, Sidney Lumet, Alfred Hitchcock, John Frankenheimer, Robert Altman, John Huston, Stanley Kubrick, and Sergio Leone.

His statement really upset me and my intrest in filmmaking is questioned myself

Pulling a George Costanza

Eyes Wide Shut was Stanley Kubricks last film. Not one of his best, but would be top tier for most directors.

There's some truth to this, but not for a lack of artistic firepower. It's more about people getting older in an industry that values youth over everything else, and not having the budgets, opportunities, or freedom they used to have.

Kurosawa, Bergman, Scorsese, Coppola, Wilder, Ford, Spielberg, Nichols: Hold our beer.

The correct answer here is Ridley Scott.

I guess QT hasn’t followed Clint Eastwood’s career.

Clint Eastwood would like a word...

Tarantino is one of greatest currently working directors right now and although he's kinda right, most directors ≈30 yrs into their careers usually have at least one mediocre/bad movie. Quentin doesn't and I can only hope he makes films for years to come.

Yeah,you could be the first.

Buñuel’s final films were arguably his best. Kurosawa and Altman had great movies later on - but if Quentin is done, he’s done. Dumb to project his fears on everyone

Oh yeah? Has he seen what George Miller did in his 70s?

He’s also saying everything Scorsese has made since 2000 sucks. That’s…also not true.

Ok but please dont make an other Once Upon a time in Hollywood again it was point less and so boring.. make an other Inglorious bastards or pulpe fiction...

He needs to go out with a spy movie set in 1910 or something like that

Quentin Tarantino needs to bow out with a Bond movie as his last film.

(laughs in David Lynch)

He’s saying everything Spielberg has made since 2004 sucks. That’s…not true.

Meanwhile, this man in his 70s made films such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, and The Irishman

Now, if only Hollywood would follow suit & stop remaking things to death & so many sequels. So much respect for people that know when to remake & when to leave alone.

His last film could get terrible reviews, not be seen as good as his previous ones. Then he will end his directing career unpleasantly. Even if Tarantino only makes one last film he could continue writing screenplays, produce, be involved in the industry, not become a recluse.

Fucking leave then. I won't beg you. Meh. See if anyone cares in two years.

*from here on in This is worded as an insult to every director that follows Tarantino. 😆

He refused to embrace digital technology in filmmaking

Tarantino was Maher's best guest of a subpar season...

He’s mostly right, but if his twentieth movie is only half as good as his worst to date, I want to see it. Plus, the man has one of the few names that can still sell tickets

Quentin is still a great director. But he is crazy and makes shit up. I don't believe him. But whatever. I will watch what he makes next.

So the plan is that he’ll ruin the Star Trek franchise and leave?

Got the script right here

Retiring? Thank goodness for that! “The man who gave copying a fresh lease of life will finally be gone”. tarantino life film quotes

Please, Tarantino forever

do beowulf!

Wasn't that 3 movies ago?

Why not direct a TV series... Thriller

Tell me you inverted the names!

Finally

I have no problem with that
