Jo Whiley and Simon Mayo are both good. Unfortunately they didn’t really gel as a unit as far as the listeners were concerned. I don’t understand why Radio 2 insisted on fixing something that wasn’t broken when both Ken Bruce and Steve Wright need sprucing up.
Drive time is terrible and Mayo is the problem. Without fail I always turn to another station when I hear his voice...

Simon has had to fall on the left wing BBC's sword to end this appalling decision - destroying Drivetime by bringing in the willie woman - not because she has talent but because it makes up the gender, ethnic, sexual orientation quotas!

I'm guessing he wants to concentrate on his writing. Huge shame though and a loss to radio 2. Things just weren't the same when they merged the drivetime show with Jo Whileys. They really didn't have any chemistry. Good luck to him.
What on earth is happening at Radio2? Poor choice of Zoe Ball for the Breakfast slot and now the loss of Simon Mayo. Developing into yet another London centric radio station as opposed to a national broadcaster

If it ain't, broke why fix it. Stopped listening, not because it was a female presenter, but, it changed the show completely.

Such a shame, the drive time show was great before they meddled with it. Love them separately but together it just didn’t work.
We all saw that coming the new format just did not work. Despite giving it a fair chance I just stopped listening to it after 3 weeks.
What a shame, two wonderful presenters totally misused. I wonder if BBCRadio2 would have felt the need to crowbar Whiley in if they’d known they were going to be able to give the Breakfast show to Zoe Ball just a few weeks later.

Well Radio 2 mucked up big time. The Breakfast and Drivetime presenters leaving within a month or two of each other and the Whiley & Mayo experiment will surely go down in radio folklore as an example of how not to change a schedule. bringbackdrivetime
Two good individual broadcasters, awful when forced together to try and make flirty chatty radio! If they are replaced with the dreadful Ricky Wilson I will personally shoot my radio! 😕
This is so incredibly sad. How could you let this happen? I have loved listening to Simon Mayo since his days at radio 1 and Jo Whiley is an incredible role model and lovely person! You have ruined drivetime for me as the next person will never be able to live up to Simon M!
It just shows those two as a formula didn't work, Simon's going and Jo's being shunted to another slot-if she was that good she would've stayed in the same slot. Radio 2 have listened to people but it's all too late.

I’m a fan of jowhiley and I listened to her show. Drivetime did not work in this format and I’m annoyed at BBCRadio2 for doing this. Exactly the same happened with live transmission after midnight.
Hi didn't blend with Simon - but ironically her stand-ins when she was off ill did!! The chemistry just wasn't there in the new format. It should be her that moves on, but I'm sure Simon will get a great new gig when the time is right! :-(

Jo Whiley is a great DJ, but the show just didn’t seem natural.
Many in the BBC are deaf to their listeners, not sure why. It was obvious the new drivetime format was misguided. They’ve chosen the wrong person for Breakfast, they’ll haemorrhage listeners from that show too. But they think they know best, they don’t, the listeners do.
Good luck Simon and Jo Always loved your shows separately and thought BBC ! If it's not broke don't fix it !! Although you did great as a team

Was always gonna happen. Simon was obviously bitter about the change when he tweeted pic of his old drivetime crew on last day. I would also leave if I was him. Jo & Simon like chalk and cheese and didn’t work. Glad to see Jo back in good eve slot for music. Will miss Simon a lot
Jo Wiley's evening shows were fine, Simon Mayo on Drivetime was fine...but the combination was woeful and embarrassing at times. Shame that BBCRadio2 ever thought it would be a good idea to mess with it.

I have to admit, I feel Simon lost his sparkle with with this new show. I wouldn't criticise Jo, I haven't heard that much of her, but it certainly didn't work and I found myself flicking back to Planet Rock.....
