| The Nationals have broken from the Liberals in a Senate vote which may upset the Murray-Darling Basin Plan. The plan aims to set limits on the amount of water which can be taken from the Basin each year, so as to leave enough for rivers, lakes and wetlands as well as the plants and animals that depend on them. Nationals senators have put amendments to legislation which would effectively change the Basin plan.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Mr Butler said the deputy prime minister is seeking to “drive a stake” through the heart of the Murray-Darling Basin Plan. “It goes to show that you can’t trust the Coalition, you particularly cannot trust the National Party with the health of the Murray-Darling Basin. “Scott Morrison needs to come out today and urgently recommit to the Murray-Darling Basin Plan in full.
Thank goodness the MDBP has been far to SA orientated with zero regard for the upper lakes system in NSW!
