I’m 53, Sarah, and I’ve really only been offered comedy in the last three years of my life, and I don’t think that’s because I’m any funnier than I used to be. I think a lot of it is that people just couldn’t fathom it, whether it was that Scully was still in their minds or it was someone else, because I’ve played a lot of dark characters, too. And so they just weren’t coming. And then came [Netflix comedy]— and I passed when it first came to me because I didn’t think it was right.
I would like to have told myself that I didn’t need to excise myself from the experience. I was very focused on looking at other actors who had careers that I admired when I was first starting out and wondering what it was about them that made it possible for them to be chosen or employed and I’d often try, in an audition or a social setting, to mimic what I imagined was the desired effect, taking me out of the scenario.
GillianA I'm just confused as to why it's okay for her to have a breakdown at work but if I did or most other people... we'd be fired.
GillianA A few guest stars have said she was unpleasant to be around on The X-Files. I guess she was having a hard time and lashing out.

GillianA I don't blame her. Living in Vancouver and filming mostly at night night night - doesn't give a person a healthy mindset. Lack of sun, heavy rain, night filming. All hard on a person.
GillianA Enjoyed this. How one separates from a character has always been an interest to me... especially when you see the demise of some actors. Seems it can be quite the challenge ❤️

MsSarahPaulson I've already predicted that in the next few years, people will want more comedies, romances, rom-coms, & lighter fare as opposed to SF/Horror, Tragic Historicals, & dark Superhero movies because of collective global trauma. Just like in the 30's. Actors are tired of dark stuff.
