Daniel O’Donnell has hit back at online trolls that claimed he didn’t support the Donegal housing redress scheme.
The singer appeared on Donegal’s Highland Radio where he revealed he had been subject to online abuse by campaigners for the mica redress scheme claiming O’Donnell wasn’t in support of the cause.“If I was made aware of it, I would have supported, no doubt about it.”“The people that are on don’t deserve the space that they walk on, those that are writing pure rubbish.
According to Highland Radio, O’Donnell had be targeted for seeming to not be in support of the #MicaRedress campaign which is calling for immediate action to rebuild homes affected by the mineral mica. The campaign for redress has been going on for years and a Government grant scheme was announced in January 2020 which would help rebuild up to 4,800 homes in Donegal affected by defective concrete blocks.
Labelled a “national emergency” by Councillor Rena Donaghey, the grant scheme will give up to €275,000 to owners forced to demolish and rebuild the worst affected homes, according to RTÉ's Prime Time.According to O’Donnell, his manager responded on his behalf - “Lots of emails come to the office, and if feel something is controversial or bordering on something legal, they don’t even talk to me about it.
He went on to say that the trolling was unacceptable. “A person with his fan base is vital for our fight, only takes a few mouthpieces to ruin the momentum/integrity of a group,” the admin wrote.
