Show goes on for Sydney’s Hollywood Hotel after $10m sale | msccummins

A low profile private family has outbid bar baron Justin Hemmes, publican Stuart Laundy and movie star Russell Crowe for the keys to the Hollywood Hotel, paying up to $10 million for the well-known Surry Hills watering hole.

The Hollywood Hotel on Foster Street, Surry Hills, Sydney has been sold to a private family for $10 million. Doris Goddard, who was once a Hollywood actress, bought the four-storey art-deco property for $175,000 in 1977. She died in July 2019 at 89. The sale process for the pub began last month, and drew interest from more than 100 potential buyers, including from overseas.

There had been concerns among patrons that a developer would be more interested in the site’s development potential rather than maintaining it as a pub.

Facts show there is ‘no need’ for a lockdown in Victoria: Paul Murray | Sky News AustraliaThe facts demonstrate there is “no need” for a lockdown of either Victoria or Melbourne, according to Sky News host Paul Murray.\n\n“There is no need for a state-wide lockdown because just 12 of the 79 local government areas or council areas around the entire state have got one case at all,” he said.\n\n“There is not a single case in regional Victoria, this is days after the lockdown and all the fears that they had about contact sites and all the rest of it.\n\n“And here’s the truth about why you don’t even need the full lockdown in Melbourne, 67 per cent of all of the cases that currently exist – and we are talking about 40 right now outside of hotel quarantine – are all in one part of Melbourne alone.”\n\nGiven the announcements about how the current outbreak is the Indian strain of COVID-19 - which health authorities say spreads particularly fast - one would expect the number of cases to have gone “through the roof by now,” Mr Murray said.\n\n“We’re still at 40,” he said.\n\n“This thing does not need to be a lockdown state-wide, it’s not in enough areas.\n\n“It doesn’t even have to be in all of Melbourne because there has not been the super spread that they feared would happen.”\n But you forgot that Paul Murray is an idiot who is clearly unqualified in being genuine or presenting the facts or lastly any expertise in public policy for a pandemic... so there's that... the super spreader event may not have come out in the figures yet.. Facts and Paul Murray are like dieting and Paul Murray - non existent
