Last night’s Oscars may have been filled with colourful frocks, smiling A-listers and the first woman in 13 years to win Best Director, but fans were left unimpressed by the rather anti-climatic ending.
However, it was Anthony Hopkins who scooped up the award for The Father, leaving many fans labelling it “the most awkward end ever”, particularly as the legendary actor was not there to give a speech. While another added: “Oh my goodness that was an awkward way to end the Oscars ceremony and I bet they’re regretting not ending with Best Picture.”
Chad tragically died in December 2020 at the age of 43, and had swept the awards season in the weeks prior, with many calling the Oscars’ decision to award Anthony Hopkins with the gong the “biggest snub.
