2021 Grammys spotlight women in historic night

, whose passing triggered many Black Lives Matter protests, some of music’s biggest stars used the red carpet to pay tribute.

These female performers, many of them women of colour, or curvy, wore outfits that were shocking, unapologetically over-the-top and a welcome antidote to the year that was: Trains! Feathers! Glitter! Skin! Noah Cyrus’ runway Schiaparelli gown, which although it drew some unfavourable comparisons to a bed or the female anatomy, was among the most show-stopping looks, as was Phoebe Bridgers, in a beaded gown featuring a skeleton motif by Thom Browne.

The same goes for the men, led by Harry Styles, whose opening performance set pulses racing across social media. Wearing a Gucci leather suit and a feather boa, there were audible gasps as he shed his furry accessory to reveal the butterfly tattoo across the centre of his torso.
