What have lockdowns and Covid restrictions meant for musicians?

Anna Mae Kelly has written more than 30 songs since the start of the pandemic. With lockdown easing planned, she is looking forward to playing live gigs in front of audiences

Anna, who started singing at the age of four, tells how the pandemic and the two lockdowns have given her the opportunity to delve more deeply into her song-writing and consider more deeply how she wants to produce them. "Before Covid, everybody was rushing about and under relentless pressure. Now they have space to look at life anew and that is finding its way into lyrics, songs and beats.image copyrightThe Green Room has taken live performances into single streets in and around Corby - tiny in-person and Covid-compliant gatherings which are then live-streamed for people to watch remotely.

Well if it's the musicians you hear on London underground they have had time to learn how to sing and play their instruments

No work or income?

The same as every fka else nowt special about them we are all suffering

Music is art. Art is free.

And you might well ask on top of what has lockdown done for musicians, what has brexit done for musicians?

No work like everyone else! More time to write new music and apply for their new EU touring visa! 🤣🤣🤣

Blue hair?

Brexit far worse.

Big question

No income

Probably been the most productive year for some artist and produced some of the best music especially for the artist with small labels or those that have self promoted themselves. Okay zero money from touring, but loyal fans have massively supported artist over the last year

They are as broke as the rest of us!

It’s not just popular music. More people go to weekly choir rehearsals than premiership football matches. It’s time the BBC realised how real people spend their spare time and every week 2m ordinary people go to a choir rehearsal.

The same as everyone else

Looking forward to all the music they have had this time to create

Nhẹ nhàng, dễ gần..

State on his hair bloody hell

,,, they don't get too often to take shower & put markups for having an artificial looking look. Aside from jokes, maybe they can free themselves from corporates by going on-line & performing independently.

Blue hair? Is that the answer?

Turned their hair blue for a start..

It’s meant they had to dye their hair blue.....

They’ve to face the music. I’ll get my coat.

AROOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Why is every BBC article posed as a clickbait question? Musicians are fucked because the greed of labels and streaming services meant the only profitable part of music is the touring and merch. Put that as a headline rather than pretending this might be questionable.

They got blue hair

Billie Eilish!

They had to go and get real jobs.
