Communications minister Saifuddin Abdullah says Putrajaya is willing to assist cinemas over entertainment tax levied by local councils. FMTNews GSC TGV Cinema

The Golden Screen and TGV cinema chains have said they are suspending operations from Nov 2.

Communications and Multimedia Minister Saifuddin Abdullah said Finas had begun working on an action plan upon hearing that cinemas may be closed over the lack of patrons. “We will also review to assist them over the question of entertainment tax which is under the jurisdiction of local authorities and we are prepared to negotiate with them,” he said.
