Movie theaters hoped to be back in business in a big way this fall, attracting stir-crazy audiences with a slate of blockbusters that included “Tenet,” “Mulan,” and “N…

’s decision to keep cinemas closed indefinitely. That’s robbing studios of a major market to show their films, Fithian argues, which may jeopardize the release of upcoming blockbusters such as “Wonder Woman 1984” and Pixar’s “Soul.” In an interview with, the theater business’s top lobbyist urged studios to keep releasing movies during the pandemic and warned that the industry faces financial ruin without government assistance.

We’re trying everything we can to go over our health protocols with Gov. Cuomo, which his team has signaled their support for. We’ve asked local officials to weigh in with Gov. Cuomo and urge him to open where it’s safe to do so. We’ve held four press conferences across the state and we’ve had all kinds of people in the movie industry call him to press our case. Now we’re just waiting for Gov. Cuomo’s decision. It’s not a local industry.

Your organization sued New Jersey when it wouldn’t give a date for movie theaters to reopen. Will you pursue legal action against New York? Not one. Movie theaters aren’t just open in the U.S. They have been open around the world and doing a lot of business for several months. We asked our epidemiologists to go review all of the global medical literature on where coronavirus outbreaks have occurred. It turns out that not a single reported outbreak of the virus was linked to movie theaters. There are reported cases that are linked to churches, restaurants and other places where people gather, which are open, but not movie theaters.

Some industry observers argue that Warner Bros. should have released “Tenet” on HBO Max as a way to drive subscriptions. Given its disappointing box office results, did the studio make a mistake?

Cuomo's attitude towards theaters while letting casinos open is absolutley unacceptable

Horseshit

Vote him out!

Whining while people are dying. Odd take.

What is wroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong with these people?

“We couldn’t make money because he didn’t want more people dying!!!!”

Sorry even if theaters were open I’m not going! Why would I put myself at risk for a movie that will eventually be available to rent?

Oh yea blame it on ONE PERSON! That makes a lot of sense. He did what was necessary and I’m happy with the He handled it...and still handling bc guess what? There’s a still a pandemic and no vaccine.

BattleSwarmBlog Anyone think that Cuomo’ nursing home policy was his way of auditioning to be the next Bond villain?

No balls to blame the president, who actually caused all of this 🙄

No I blame the federal government for their inability to contain the virus on a national level. I want movie theaters to reopen as much as anyone, but this is just one big YIKES coming from NATO.

There is no reason whatsoever for cuomo to keep theaters closed. Glad he’s getting called out

The entertainment industry needs to take accountability for losses. They need to adapt to a new way of life & can’t get stuck in what made $ in the past. We have the same thing in CA w/ Disney blaming state yet they had a massive dividend payout & execs getting full pay/bonuses.

I'm not a Cuomo fan but... Good.

Who wants to go to a movie theater right now?

He also murdered 11000+ people in nursing homes by forcing COVID infected residents back there so that’s probably even more important.

More proof...

Saving lives is more important than making money at this time. After the horror NY went through at the beginning of the corona virus, I support Gov Cuomo all the way.

Jeezus, what a putz.

They better blame Trump, who knew what was coming and didn't care.

The world doesn't revolve around cunting America

Vullein Cuomo:

There's a great big country outside of New York and Los Angeles that Hollywood takes for granted. Gov. Cuomo is only responsible for a small portion of the nation. It's well past time to blame President Sniffles. He sneezes one time and they have to airlift him to a hospital.

Another American industry ruined by polices of the Big Dems in control.

Evergreen headline: Rich CEO blames Democrats for the world’s reality

Vullein Cuomo is a terrible Governor

I thought Covid-19 was the reason. But what do I know? I’m not a rich prick who took zero initiatives or planned other venues, like pop up drive ins across the contry, to make some $ & weather the storm but instead figured if theaters reopened in a pandemic it’d be fine.

Exhibitors will blame everything and everyone rather than admitting the truth; this weekend last year Joker opened 1 in the US $96.2m and in the UK with £12.55m Tenet took $2.5m in the US and £500k in the US this is the reason why No Time To Die has been delayed

Too bad. If it isn't safe, it isn't safe.

Good.

Sure, let's kill 10,000 New Yorkers so we can all see a lame action movie that's exactly like the 20 other Bond movies we can see on Netflix.

Cuomo was willing to open to open up gyms, bowling alleys, casinos but not theatres?! Like what?!! Gyms are arguably less safer than movie theatres. Not to mention, major theatre chains have invested heavily in air circulation equipment to prevent ppl from breathing the same air

This is nonsense. Bond will do 80% of the business overseas. They moved it because of a surge in the UK, its biggest territory per capita, and the threat of a surge in much of the world for months to come. NY is not a big factor. The stupid, it burns.

He's right. Enough with fear mongering. Open up. And fuck the streamers. Movies are for the big screen.

Now that’s a bit unfair. Cuomo has to do what he thinks his right for NY citizens. They were hammered and have done a great job coming back from that.

🤡

So it was the time to die

Listen, I really want to see No Time To Die but right now for me is also no time to die.

Wow. A butterfly flaps its wings in Central Park and a storm forms over U.K. cinema.

Idiots

I mean, that’s idiotic. Even if we opened all the theaters, no one would go. Why? Because there’s a fucking pandemic! It’s not gonna get better through winter. Be good business people and prepare for it. Christ.
