Bill filed mandating media to allocate public service time daily

Deputy Speaker and Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte Jr. filed House Bill No. 7819 or the proposed “Public Service Announcement Act” to harness the power of media for the benefit of the people.

Under the measure, all online news and broadcast media shall provide public service time of at least three minutes per day to enable the government to educate and increase the awareness of the people on matters, such as but not limited to : newly enacted laws and/or its implementing rules and regulations , and services offered by various government agencies and instrumentalities.

HB 7819 provides that in cases of emergency, or exigency, as determined by national government or the concerned local government unit, additional airtime shall be given for public service announcements. This will be determined in consultation with the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas , and the Philippine Information Agency , it said.
