The actor, who was best known for his roles as Detective Seargant John Watt in Z-Cars and Charlie Grace in EastEnders, as well as his roles in Casualty, died peacefully in his sleep.
A statement from his agent reads: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our much-loved client Frank Windsor at the age of 92.‘Born Frank W Higgins on July 12 1928, his acting career spanned over 50 years, with notable roles in Z-Cars, Softly Softly, Casualty and Peak Practice.‘Frank is survived by his daughter Amanda and his wife Mary, who was by his side until the end.
‘As per Frank’s wishes and in keeping with Covid restrictions, there will be no funeral or memorial service, just a private cremation with his ashes being laid to rest with his beloved son David.‘Our thoughts are with his family and friends.’ Frank’s on-screen career began in 1955, with the actor going on to appear in the likes of The Avengers in the 60s, Softly, Softly, from the 1960s to 70s, and Doctor Who in the 80s.
Between 1991 and 2004, he appeared in Casualty as Kenneth Samuels and Leslie Smith, and his final role was in 2004, when he played Mr. Walker in Between Two Women.Aside from his decades-long TV career, Frank was also an accomplished theatre actor.Tributes have been pouring in for the star, with one fan writing: ‘RIP Frank Windsor. A great actor and personality, always welcome on screens.’
