Directors Julie Cohen and Betsy West spent years with the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg to make their Oscar-nominated film 'RBG.'

Ginsburg showed me the power of working from a disadvantage — the more they underestimate you, the more satisfying the victory. Her 22-year battle against various cancers was an inspiration for someone who lost his mother just last year to ovarian cancer.

They captured the “astonishing” moments — such as Ginsburg’s intense fitness regimen, which she began after her first bout with pancreatic cancer. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, left, as the Duchess of Krakenthorp in Donizetti’s “The Daughter of the Regiment” at the Washington National Opera.“We went to a couple of operas with her and saw the complete passion that she feels for opera and for music. She just loses herself in the music,” West said. “In a way, she’s such an intense worker, such a thinker, such a serious person that the opera is a place where she goes for just complete joy.

“The answer was, ‘Absolutely not,’” Cohen said. The filmmakers called her “Justice Ginsburg” or simply “Justice.”“She has that kind of presence that one feels the need to be just ultra respectful. … She had this kind of quiet, tiny power and it really emanated from her when you were around her.”

FilmmakerJulie Great seeing you and Betsywest interviewed on CBSSunday today!

Why didn't she retire under President Obama in 2013 or 2014 at the age of 80 or 81, when the Democrats controlled the Senate and only needed 51 votes to confirm her replacement? No disrespect to Justice Ginsburg, but this question must be asked.

'RBG': How 'Notorious' Ruth Bader Ginsburg became a pop-culture iconShe is remembered for her withering dissents and unrivaled work ethic that made her a formidable force on the Supreme Court floor for nearly three decades. What did she do exactly I'm truly happy that she did become an icon with younger women (and some men). It speaks of her integrity. You know you're doing well when not one, but a few generations, think you're pretty damn awesome.
