Former Pres. Barack Obama releases a statement following the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Politicians, journalists and celebrities offered their condolences to the family of Ginsburg, 87, who died due to complications of metastatic pancreas cancer, Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg said."Our Nation has lost a jurist of historic stature," Chief Justice John Roberts said in a statement."We at the Supreme Court have lost a cherished colleague.

"A fighter to the end, Justice Ginsburg battled cancer, and other very long odds, throughout her remarkable life," Trump said."May her memory be a great and magnificent blessing to the world."Ginsburg, according to President Barack Obama, helped inspire future generations' pursuit of justice. "Her 27 years on the Court exceeded even my highest expectations when I appointed her," he said."Her landmark opinions advancing gender equality, marriage equality, the rights of people with disabilities, the rights of immigrants, and so many more moved us closer to 'a more perfect union.

"She dedicated many of her 87 remarkable years to the pursuit of justice and equality, and she inspired more than one generation of women and girls," he said."Justice Ginsburg loved our country and the law." "We learned of the death of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was not only a giant in the legal profession, but a beloved figure, and my heart goes out to all those who cared for her and care about her," Biden said."And she practiced the highest American ideals as a justice: equality and justice under the law.
