This headline is patently false - in fact more CDs (units) were sold, according to the source linked in the article. Lazy journalism.

Deejays can spin and mix vinyl. Can’t do it with CDs.

I'm still a vinyl nut. So are my two sons....(both dj's). This makes me happy!! 😊

who buys CDs, are there even CD players to buy still?

Is that a story let alone a news story. I think digital downloads killed the cd stone dead. Vinyl is the trendy new thing. But it had nothing to do with the end of the cd.

It was just a matter of time. Each format has its uses.People have realised this I think.

The story is about revenue! Vinyl albums cost more than CDs, so no mention if the number of CDs is actually outselling the number of vinyl, but the small difference in revenue would imply as much. Personally, I purchase HD digital downloads... JustSaying

I'm old school and still believe in supporting the artists I like as opposed to streaming them for free. So I still buy CD and Vinyl and as CD's are cheap as chips now so it's a win for me. I only really use Spotify for discovering new bands and albums.

CDs will decrease in price so more for me & others to buy. 👍

good the hear splendid news

then Apple will soon release a vinyl that can only be bought in the Apple Store, that can only be played on Apple turntables, that you can only rent and not buy, and the vinyl will dissolve by itself after 1 year. Of course you also need special Apple speaker cables.

During this period when computers, pads, and mobile phones have gained popularity, anything digital would be preferred. CDs sold out in an actual store would not win the preference of people anywhere, especially young ones. Better try to convert it into a digital one for sale.

Who buys CDs any more? I mean, there is the odd, niche product that you don't get on Spotify, but it's hardly a comparison.

RossbyrneW Wow, that’s interesting but it’s true only because everyone steams now, and relatively few people buy physical CDs. I’m streaming Tidal and Qobuz under Roon and it is truly amazing. But, I just moved seventeen boxes of records. I want it all, analog and digital.

They've gone completely mad.

Kind of irrelevant since physical media is pretty much dead.
