Daisy Ridley was jerked around with her character a lot more than fans realize while she worked on the lateston Tuesday, Ridley revealed that at first, her character was going to be a descendant of Obi-Wan Kenobi."At the beginning, there was toying with an Obi-Wan connection — there were different versions — then it really went to it was no one, and then it came to episode nine and J.J. [Abrams] pitched me the film and was like 'Oh, yeah, Palpatine is granddaddy,'"said Ridley.
"Then two weeks later he was like, 'Oh, we’re not sure,' So, it kept changing. So, then even as we were filming, I wasn't sure what the answer was going to be."writer-director Rian Johnson derailed. Then Abrams had to rethink his original plan amid Johnson's changes when he signed on forfans were both surprised and unhappy with the what-could-have-been revelation and took to social media to vent,"Rey Kenobi" quickly trending.
Disney is probably pissed at her right now for confirming that they had no plan...
I was happy when she was not related to anyone. They should’ve stuck with it 😆
Say hi to Margo for me! ✌️
I’m more upset with the prospect of not seeing more of Rey! She is too dynamic of a character to cease being in the movies. I wanted more immediately after fade to black. jjabrams
I am BLM fan but this should be a lesson crime does not pay and be good and stay away from trouble because trouble begets trouble.
Star Wars fans are toxic fans
Who cares
Well of course they are. I'm upset my local farmer's market is running out of strawberries. What else 'ya got?
I would have preferred if they had made Rey a Kenobi, I think it would've been more poetic.
Be mad at the hacks who thought the nostalgia bait was enough to make money and didn't care about actually coming up with a decent story.
Wait, Star Wars fans? Upset? Color me surprised.
'fans are upset' is a perpetual state in all fandom.
THE FUCKING WRITERS HAD NO PLAN TO BEGIN WITH
So you're saying not even the actors liked what they got to work with? Ok that's fair. FuckDisneyStarWars
I knew the moment I walked out of the theater opening night of the Force Awakens. Fans were so outraged we started a new online community, the Fandom Menace.
TheFandomMenaceWasRight
Nope. TFM has been telling you this since TFA.
Retcon the sequels.
“a lot more than fans realize” We knew the whole time, you useless hacks.
A lot of fans have been saying this for years. Way to finally catch up 'insider' media.
Fans have been calling out this shitshow of a trilogy for years, and yet the media called us all sorts of ridiculous names. You idiots were either too blind to see the writing on the wall or were too enthralled in your status as shills to point it out. Welcome to the party pal.
Has the media turned against Disney at last? You spent the last six years defending then while calling fans critical of what they were doing 'toxic'. What happened? Did they forget to send you the checks? 😂😂😂
Everyone knew. You called them racist and sexist for not buying into your shill agenda. She got paid so who cares.
We knew. The Fandom Menace was right.
The powers that be should have put more forethought into the arc of this story instead glazing over audiences with CGI
Who was doing the jerking again.
It’s about as much as I expected based on the outcome
Lol every actor wants to distance themselves now that they cashed their checks
can we all get a fucking apology now? We were right. It doesn't take a genius to see even then that they were just making it up as they went along and wanted to tick diversity boxes while still maintaining white supremacy.
It’s over. It’s over.
Yeah it shows.
I think fans realize just fine
I think everyone who saw the films knew there was no plan
We were all jerked around.
I think it’s cool I didn’t like the idea of some one special being from nowhere. Special people should only come from special lineages, the rest of us should just go away
The fans were jerked around the most
Not as much as the audience was.
Anyway, back to JohnBoyega
Your piece makes a mistake. Ridley did NOT say that Rey's heritage was changed in the last Jedi. She says she started as a Kenobi, then became nobody. Both of those in TFA (as confirmed by interviews years agai). Then JJ came back, said she was a Palpatine, but then said no, yes.
You might like or not his movie but seems that Ryan Johnson was the one who had things more clear. BUT I still don't understand how the team behind this triolgy didn't had a more or less closed script when it started.
Just goes to show they really had no over arching storyline for these films. Hence why Rian did what he did, no one advised him differently.
Great
The recent trilogy is too nostalgia driven, it lacks uniqueness, it has a few good ideas but none play out into something meaningful, here's hoping the next trilogy stands on its own, providing original content that evolves smoothly throughout each movie
