Actress Jane Fonda has one word of advice for people looking for ways to get more involved with the climate movement: Vote. “It's safe to vote by mail, but do it early. Get your ballots early. Mail them early,” she says. (wbur)

Book Excerpt: 'What Can I Do?: My Path From Climate Despair to Action'During Labor Day weekend in 2019, I was in Big Sur with my pals Catherine Keener and Rosanna Arquette. I have a history with Big Sur dating back to 1961, when I first ventured there by myself in search of Henry Miller. I had just read a pamphlet he wrote, To Paint Is to Love Again, and I wanted to meet him and talk. He wasn't there, but I ended up spending a week at the hot springs , and it was transformative.

Catherine Keener reminded me recently how, on the five-hour drive to Big Sur, she would go on an hourly rant: What can I do? Tell me what to do! Where are the leaders? I need someone to tell me what to do! I felt impotent, angry with myself for my inability to give her the answers she needed because I felt the same way. What can I do?

Reading this was like a kick in my stomach. I knew that what Greta had seen was the truth, that, as she said, we should be behaving as if our house were on fire, as if we were in a crisis, because we are. The brave, young student was exhorting us to get out of our comfort zone and do something. Learning this about Greta permitted me to take the science into my own body.

wish list. But Naomi's book made me understand justice is at the heart of solving what led to the climate crisis. The Green New Deal beckons us into a future where everyone can see a place for themselves. help me figure it out?" See, I'm someone who, when she gets an idea, is 100 percent ready to take a leap of faith and just do it. In fact, leaps of faith are my only form of exercise these days.

Turns out there was very poor cell phone service, but there was a bright red old-fashioned outdoor phone booth and a place where I could gather an hour's worth of quarters.

WBUR Get some spokesman who are not symbols of a radical left. The right will listen when it's not privileged actors telling them what to do.

WBUR 81% of those polled at Shady Acres say 'Barbarella's' opinion more important than ever. Also, you really 'gotta hand it to' the NVA.

WBUR I’m definitely mailing mine early & I’ll be at the polls 1st thing Election Day to cast my votes for realDonaldTrump . We mustn’t let the radical left democrats destroy our great country the way they’re destroying their own cities!

WBUR During the most tense moments of the talks to release POWs, Fonda was going around calling for them to be executed. Now she’s celebrated as a peace activist. She’s a ghoul

WBUR Omg save us from another platform preach by Jane Fonda. A failure as a wife, mother, American, Even as a friend tell that crazy bitch to stay in the basement her glory days and super privilege are nauseating

WBUR Depends where you at. You think 1 republican vote matters in California?

WBUR Hanoi Jane? Seriously?

WBUR NPR = Activism

WBUR Yes, THANK YOU NPR!

WBUR Oh Jane.

WBUR Just like most of the “social justice” movement much of the global warming movement is a hyper exaggerated story used to manipulate. It’s all a smokescreen to usher in radical new government control. Open your eyes. Stop acting like mindless sheep.

WBUR want to fight climate change? cut down some trees and turn em into voter ballots says actress Jane Fonda

WBUR If you can, VOTE IN PERSON

WBUR Both party's have climate change policies that will lead to end of human civilization and possibly the extinction of the human species. Voting is not useful, even marginally, to avert this.

WBUR

WBUR Interesting that she wearing the red team's colors. Crafty ;)

WBUR I’d agree with her, but in a system where your vote doesn’t matter unless you live in a swing state this is just not true.

WBUR Isn't in-person voting more environmentally friendly than mail-in or absentee voting? Aside from the extra paper (envelopes, ballots for dead relatives, etc.), mail-in requires use of postal trucks, processing machines, perhaps even aircraft. Just a thought...

WBUR She is a traitor to our country!
