American director Alexander Payne has responded for the first time to actress Rose McGowan's allegation of sexual grooming.
In a guest column on entertainment news website Deadline on Friday , Payne, 59, denied meeting McGowan in the late 1980s when she was 15. He said he did meet her in 1991 during his first directing job"when she auditioned for a comic short I was making for a Playboy Channel series".
