Sarah Paulson, who won a Golden Globe and Emmy for her portrayal of prosecutor Marcia Clark in Murphy’s, will take on the titular role. The show’s Netflix synopsis invites audiences to “meet the woman before the monster” and Murphy himself told

that their writers’ room jumped off from the belief “that abusers are people who have been abused”.
