Disney's $30 'Mulan' Launch Shames Music's Timid Pricing Models

On Disney’s latest earnings call with analysts on August 4th, the company’s CEO Bob Chapek set the scene for the release. Chapek commented that althoughwas a “one-off” event inspired by the movie’s delayed launch in theaters, he hopes it will provide Disney with learnings for the future. It launched “Premier Access” in order to “try and recapture some of that investment” from the film’s production, Chapek said.

Chapek, then, believes the experiment’s potential for failure is materially lessened by the fact that it will attract new Disney+ subscribers who will guarantee ongoing, long-term income for Disney. column juxtaposing the streaming strategy of Disney+ with that of the record industry. I noted that Disney had already launched an additionally expensive PPV tier for UFC fans who subscribed to sports platform ESPN+.

We only just managed to bury IP piracy, losing vast chunks of our income in the process & now the suits want it back such is the greed.

You seem to be under the impression that it will work. I know I’m not paying it, heck I think the original subscription is too high as I am an adult that doesn’t need to see Frozen 80x. I can always wait, it’ll be on my premium cable eventually.

because music is a smaller operation and contains personalities who have to maintain an empathetic image. No one wants to be a fan of an artist who teams up with a mega-corporation to give their music to rich ppl

I've read arhuments that $30 for a new movie isn't too bad considering how much families normally spend going OUT to the movies, but that ignores the fact that the movie theater is an experience, something they won't get at home regardless of how new the movie is

Why don't we boycott over priced entertainment options?

Why don't people talk about bandcamp?

Seeing this is a kid’s movie, I’d expect larger at-home audiences. That being said, $30 seems like a steal.

Movies are an art form that contain many art forms, including music.I would imagine that alone makes it able to charge a little more.Unless you are one of the 10 artists that put out huge productions like Taylor, and Beyoncé,which contain movies as well. Most artists don’t do that

Not am I

I’m not paying $30

Can’t wait to illegally download this

Becuz he music business is run by total bores who have no vision .. Look at the state of it, It's pathetic They have no ideas at all
