BBC considers cutting anthems from annual music program because of perceived ties to colonialism, slavery

The BBC is reportedly thinking about dropping two traditional patriotic anthems from its annual music program because of the songs' perceived ties to colonialism and slavery.

The news comes amid the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, a primary actor in recent protests around the world against systemic racism and police brutality following the May 25 police-involved death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Which is a noble sentiment, but it misses the point that exploitation of others is an ever present danger unless we each look to ourselves. Often the ends can be used to justify the means.

That’s preposterous.
