The fires were sparked by nearly 12,000 lightning strikes in a dry California terrain that hasn't seen much rain. CA is vulnerable to this form of terrorism. In 1978 someone made a firebomb by lighting a cigarette that was stuffed into a book of matches. Tossed into some bushes next to PL at a shopping center. The resulting fire burned from the Ventura Freeway to the ocean 10 miles away.
