Music stardom doesn't come overnight for most people, even mega-talented ones like Grammy winner and Tony and Emmy nominee Sara Bareilles. So it makes sense, then, that the struggling singer/songwriter at the center of, the AppleTV+ series loosely inspired by Bareilles' life, didn't magically become a pop star goddess in the season one finale.
"At a point where she had gone through a lot rejections — 'You're more of a songwriter than a singer;' 'You're more of a singer than a songwriter;' 'I love you, but I don't know how to market you' — all of those things were thrown at her. She played a gig ... just for the love of singing, just to reconnect with that and the love of music and didn't know there was an A&R person in the audience," Nelson told.
O'Grady is not only excited about her character's professional development, but also her personal life: After a season pining for her very taken neighbor, Bess finally kissed her guitarist/collaborator, Samuel , just before they went on stage together. In a potential second season she'd love to further explore that relationship.
