Around the turn of the century, there were Darren Star’s “Grosse Pointe,” a wicked take on the production of his own “Beverly Hills, 90210,” and Fox’s acid “Action,” with Jay Mohr as a studio head recovering from a catastrophic flop and Illeana Douglas as the child star-turned-prostitute he makes his head of production.
