Some of the teachers who spoke with our correspondent said due to the long break necessitated by COVID-19, the students were also finding it difficult to comply with social distancing when interacting with themselves.
A teacher, Lambe Oluwatobi, said, “They don’t observe social distancing, once you’re not with them, they move close to each and gist with reckless abandon. There is a loss of interest, many of them have not been reading. In short, it doesn’t feel like WASSCE is a few weeks away talk less of a few days.”
Another teacher, Peace Oyerinde, said, “Although, one can see the excitement of resuming back to school in them, most of them have lost their zeal and passion. One needs to sensitise, motivate and encourage them to learn again.” Barika Patience, a teacher also said the pupils seemed to have lost interest in learning and school had been so boring for them.
“A big challenge is going back to previous topics to remind them of what they have learnt because many of them have forgotten most things but they are willing to learn,” she said. All rights reserved.
