Betty departed the village in 2015, after it was announced that Paula would be retiring, but she made a brief return that very year amid the Christmas instalment of the ITV soap.In addition to portraying Betty in Emmerdale, Paula also appeared in fellow soap Coronation Street, where she played four different characters — three of which appeared within a decade of one another in the 1970s.
Paula famously portrayed another character named Betty, when she appeared in Channel 4 soap Brookside as Betty Hughes between 1984 and 1985. Of course, the celebrated actress is best known for her performance as Emmerdale’s Betty, who swiftly became a fan-favourite upon her arrival in the village in 1994, and the character’s relationship with Seth Armstrong is largely regarded as one of the greatest ever seen in a British soap.– we’d love to hear from you.
