Opinion: There's something dangerously askew with the way we're talking about race and the arts

and screens an annual program of films by Indigenous filmmakers, such as Warwick Thornton, Ivan Sen, Erica Glynn, Wayne Blair and many more. Darren Dale, an Indigenous man and one of our country's most important TV producers, is on its board. The festival also champions the work of diverse Australian filmmakers, including some of us, as well as a program for women filmmakers and for screen practitioners with disabilities.

The current focus on public shaming and "burning down" the industry is misguided and ahistorical. Even if it started as an attempt at genuine critique, in the divisive and polarising world of social media, it has quickly descended into online bullying. Equally, they have not understood the history of struggle against racism in Australia, which has established structures that have already enabled some of the critics to assume their current positions within the mainstream Australian media and provides ongoing opportunities for others. For instance, the fact that there were other racially oppressed groups in Australia before them, such as Greeks, Italians, Jews and other non-Anglo whites, who also suffered under systemic racism and bigotry.

Shame to all the heavy hitters who co-signed this article which is a blatant silencing of the younger gen of filmmakers. These heavy hitters are also a majority of 'gatekeepers' i, and now have made it quite clear they will shut down careers of the people speaking out. Disgusting

An understanding of ‘Cultural Marxism’ and ‘Critical Theory’ a very good place to start.

The Arts are a microcosm of what is happening in the wider community in regard to racial sensitivities and false claims of racism, if you and your publisher cannot see that then you are complicit in that system.
