On Sunday afternoon, a day before NASCAR’s first superspeedway race since banning Confederate flags from the events, a noose was found in driver’s garage stall. Wallace, the only Black driver in the sport’s top series, led the successful push to ban the Confederate flag in the wake of the protests that followed the killing of George Floyd. It was only one of his latest public statements of support for the movement; Wallace has previously driven with a Black Lives Matter emblem on his car.
“Nothing is more important and we will not be deterred by the reprehensible actions of those who seek to spread hate,” Wallace continued. “As my mother told me today, ‘They are just trying to scare you.’ This will not break me, I will not give in nor will I back down. I will continue to proudly stand for what I believe in.”that the noose was seen at Talladega Superspeedway in Lincoln, Alabama, by a member of Wallace’s team, who reported it to NASCAR.
