Movie theaters in Los Angeles and New York City hope to reopen on July 10 in a key development for the return of the box office after an unprecedented hiatus

The first two new nationwide releases set to hit the big screen since all in-door cinemas shuttered in mid-March are Solstice Studios'Regal Cinemas announced Tuesday morning that the majority of its locations will open on July 10, while all 541 U.S. sites will be up and running by July 24. AMC Theatres and Cinemark Theatres are planning on similar phased reopenings. Together, the three circuits make up the three biggest chains in the U.S.

None of the circuits have announced specific plans for New York City and Los Angeles since they first need the go-ahead from local authorities, yet numerous sources tellthat movie chains and Hollywood now believe cinemas there will be once again be allowed to welcome customers on July 10. Last week, California Gov. Gavin Newsom gave theaters the okay to reopen, with L.A. County expected to follow suit. New York City is more complicated. Movie theaters are currently part of the Phase Four reopening plan for businesses, but there's a push to make them part of Phase Three.

On Tuesday, Regal detailed a wide array of safety measures it will take upon reopening, including keeping two seats empty between groups of patrons , contactless payment, reduced concessions, cleaning with special equipment and more. And where required by local authorities, employees and guests will wear masks, while capacity may be reduced by 50 percent.

So I'll have to fly to US to watch TENET ?

RalphGMWorks no thanks... stuff your movies up your ying yang

Reckless, dangerous, and amazingly irresponsible.

Okk...so seeing movies in theatre has bcm an essential commodity....

Yes

Yeah, can't wait to have the virus re-circulated into my lungs over and over by the AC in a theater to watch a remake of a cartoon. Pass.

How about no. -A New Yorker

I see we’ve gone from Jaws to Jaws 2.

I hope theater workers are getting hazard pay for this. [Narrator: they aren’t]

I see the masks mandates in certain counties for employees and guests being very restrictive to a movie theaters bottom line. If they cant make money from concessions they wont have any profit to open.

6ft = not 2, but 3 seats between each person (so, 1/4. 25%), but a 6ft *radius* eliminates every other row. That means 12.5% to start with. Adding two together for couples and *maybe* get it as high as 20%, low-cap megachair houses excluded.

This is wildly irresponsible.

I hope so too. 🎥

Fake news. Studios will not be releasing films until occupancy of 100% is allowed. And that won't be until vaccine arrives.

Best news I’ve heard since they shit down in March. Can’t wait to get back

At less than 50% big deal. No new blockbusters will ever open until 100% capacity

Too song and a lot of people will still get the virus.

But if the radical Democrat left continues to lie, stoke fear, damage our cities, our well-being, our statues, and our history in their demented rage to win in November, they will find less people paying for their content. Don't mess with America.

it will never be the same and only become a money pit, i'm afraid the era of movie theaters has come to an end. everything will be streamed form now on. I hope Tarantino gets his 10th and final epic film in under the wire.

GraceRandolph thoughts? i don’t think nyc will open that early especially at the rate they’re moving!
