Broadcaster Michael McLaren says the “new Puritans” believe if they topple the statues of very dead personalities then public squares will be converted into a “safe space for ‘generation triggered’”. Mr McLaren said the “new Puritans are on the march” but are under the slogan of Black Lives Matter and are busy “erasing history with a particular if not peculiar disdain for statues”.
Statues of historical figures across the globe have been destroyed in the wake of the growing Black Lives Matter movement with monuments of slave traders, and influential people, such as Christopher Columbus and even Winston Churchill, suffering at the hands of protesters.
mclaren2gb Michael ..Attempting to rewrite history by avoiding the full story is preying upon people's ignorance. The biggest destruction of statues & symbols was it the former Soviet Union when the Soviet Union collapsed. Ignoring facts like this is exactly what this is about.
