Delroy Lindo stars in Spike Lee's new film about four black Vietnam vets who return decades later to bring home the body of a fallen friend. 'What this film is doing in my mind is serving as a historical corrective,' he says.

I didn't want to do it, but I said to Spike, why can't we make Paul, you know, an archconservative, an extreme conservative without going there, without my being a Trumpite? And he thought about it for a while. He called me back three days later and said he really needed Paul to be a Trumpite. And at that point, I read the script an additional two times, and I came to realize it's just one component of this man.

Then there is the loss of my wife. Then there is the loss of my son — and by loss of my son, what I mean is our relationship, as you see in the film, is fractious. There's love there, but it's very, very fractious. And here comes this individual in 2015 who says, I can make it better. And Paul needs a win. I need to believe what this man is saying, and that is what causes Paul to become that MAGA hat-wearing person.Every time that I have worked with Spike, he is prepared to the max.

So what I hope there is a an enhanced recognition of, as a result of seeing this film, is these men, their contributions, their courage and their love of America, and their love of country in context of the presentation of their humanity. Because a lack of recognition of our humanity is exactly the reason, one of the main reasons why the country is experiencing the turmoil that it is experiencing right now.

I’m......old

An army sergeant yelling either you walk over those protesters or we’ ll lock you up in a federal prison for violating the draft laws.

I also remember a Buddhist monk burning himself in protest of the war on the national Capitol steps. I remember getting my preinduction physical in 1968 at Oakland army induction center walking over a sea of protest bodies blocking entrance. Literally walking over them.

I remember watching the news capture that 12 year old Vietnamese girl running with half her body burned from napalm. Remember that execution of the captured VC prisoner. The guy who shot him was killed weeks later. The my lai massacre was broadcast for weeks. Imagine being there.

The intro to this film was powerful. Press coverage of the Vietnam war was extensive and fairly thorough. Far more censorship today than back then. The rest of the film was disappointing in many ways after the intro.

Spike missed a major 'teaching moment' on the existing racial conflict during VN. While he covered the racial dilemma black soldiers faced fighting in VN despite racial injustices at home he totally overlooked the racial tensions within VN involving the military, itself.

A scene of a VN War flashback had Bloods discuss MLK's April 1968 assassination/resulting riots as current during their army tour in VN. But the movie showed their army tour was in 1971 (3 years later). That's a very BIG MISS for an outspoken racial activist like Spike Lee.

This movie was awful. Bad acting and left me feeling like I wasted my time watching. Nothing in this movie was powerful or moving. It was a statement that was made in a weak script and performances.

Do they come back looting, murdering, beating and commit arson? Or become hard working, family men?

Bet it Oscar winner next year one of the most powerful performances in years ! ! !

For MAGA 'Build the Wall' Paul, it could have been better to have Diamond and Silk as daughters rather than semi-estranged son, David. Delroy Lindo’s acting is sometimes over the top.

Я верю вам

it was OK. thought it was highlare in the flashback scenes that delroy et AL looked old as fuck. what was that about? and also, eddie and meli-mel deserved better..

Sounds stupid

ilike most spike lee movies but this was total crap. a waste of good talent, too.

Thought the movie was bad. Thought Lindos character sucked. I dont get all the hype about this movie. Its not good at all. Afraid to criticize an all black film nowadays?

Malcom X was better. This sucked.

I just wish he’d edited out the end of the clip of the actual Vietcong soldier being executed with the fountain of blood spouting from the wound as he fell. I can’t unsee it.. 😳

thats where the Crips and Bloods divide begins. Crips are about revolution, Bloods are about that quick dollar.
