'Gone With the Wind' will return to HBOMax with an introduction by 'Silent Sunday Nights' host Jacqueline Stewart.

Ridley called on HBO Max to pull the film -- which tells the story of a tumultuous love affair between two wealthy Southern aristocrats and is set against the backdrop of the end of the Civil War and the destruction of the Confederacy. Ridley argued that the movie"doesn’t just 'fall short' with regard to representation. It is a film that glorifies the antebellum south."

Earlier this week, a spokesperson for HBO Max explained in a statement to ET that the film would eventually return to its streaming catalog, along with additional content that would contextualize the controversial historical depictions and elements of the story.is a product of its time and depicts some of the ethnic and racial prejudices that have, unfortunately, been commonplace in American society.

"These depictions are certainly counter to WarnerMedia’s values, so when we return the film to HBO Max, it will return with a discussion of its historical context and a denouncement of those very depictions, but will be presented as it was originally created, because to do otherwise would be the same as claiming these prejudices never existed," the statement continued.

I am surprised no one talks more about the rape scene. Ret grabs Scarlet by the skull, threatens to kill her, and drags her up the stairs as she yells no. THATS RAPE. Idc if she seems happy later. Rape doesn’t end because someone saw benefit.

Who is watching gone with the wind anyways? People who are in their 90s?

This is the only reson I have ever cared about that stupid racist film!

🤡

Hopefully the introduction is skippable

Fuck all that! play roots on ABC.

Pretending this shit didn't happen is what leads people to believe there's no problem. It's a movie that takes place in the south during the civil war and was made before WW2 forced the general public to even think twice about racism. It is what it is

It is a really bad film when you analyze it. The only time I saw it was in college. I was astounded by all the racist and bigoted words and scenes. They even had stereotypes of the Irish. I have never watched it again. It’s only second to the movie, Birth of a Nation.
