There is no doubt that we now have coronavirus on the run. Our collective efforts have saved thousands of lives and prevented an incredible amount of sickness and misery.

It is 103 days since the first case of Covid-19 was recorded in Ireland on 29 February this year. There have been some very dark days in the intervening period, particularly during the first half.

The grim Irish death toll currently stands at over 1,700 people. Out of that, 95% never even got into an ICU, so hopeless were their chances. In fact, almost 60% of the people killed by Covid-19 died outside of a hospital setting, mostly in long-term residential care facilities including nursing homes.

He showed a set of results that everyone in the country who has lived with the restrictions deserves to savour, a reflection what the power of the people has achieved. There has been plenty of controversy surrounding our testing regime, particularly during the first two months of the pandemic, with delays and backlogs undermining confidence in the system.

We know, too, that this number has fallen significantly further since then with the actual number of Covid-19 patients in hospital beds down to just 75 people on 10 June.

Which will all be negated now that the country has opened too soon thanks to LeoVaradkar

🙏❤👏

The virus is not on ‘the run’ and far more people died then needed to. New Zealand did it right, congratulate them not yourselves.

That's why people don't bother to stand back in shops anymore and just get in the faces of retail workers spitting as they talk or coughing without covering up. Everyone's back to not washing hands, and touching faces🙄🤦🏾‍♀️

Looks like nobody is wearing masks though when they’re out and about. 🤷‍♀️ 2nd wave 🌊

Testing for everyone before we say job done.

we all did except your encouraging the BLACK LIVES MARCHES...OVER 5000 ALL TOGETHER AND HI FIVING...no denouncing from you....causing INNOCENT IRISH LIVES .. in less than 2 weeks...we wait and see... how many deaths ?SHAME ON YOU...

Well done to our Leo and all our country we did it at right time😍

Now we need to watch out for ourselves and others to avoid the return of Coronavirus

Read between the lines. The grim Irish death toll currently stands at 1,700 people. Out of that 95% never even got into an ICU so hopeless were their chances. In other words they were already very sick and dying but we used them to add to the official figures to scare people.

Not sure about the thousands of lives saved...The surge when it came was in the care homes...65% of deaths were in the care homes..

'This lethal virus is still in circulation so we have got to remain extremely vigilant. There is no room whatsoever for complacency.' Just skimmed over your BLM protest stories. You didn't give a shit then. Why the fuck would anyone listen to you now? RTE, worse than useless!

20,000 tests carried out in the past week and 185 tested positive. Lockdown should be ended completely.

Too early to congratulate yerselves!

We should get Leo drinking cans in the Phoenix park everyday. That way there’d magically be no deaths the next day. 🤫🤭

Caused a fair bit of sickness and misery too,
