03/06/2020An internationally recognised expert on autism "is concerned" about the increasingly large number of children with autism presenting themselves to Australia's gender clinics, according to The Australian's Bernard Lane. According to figures in The Australian, 45 per cent of the of the 383 patients in Melbourne's Royal Children's hospital's show mild-to-severe autism features when they sit a screening test.

“Once they’ve changed gender, they still have autism and when transition doesn’t solve their problems they think, Oh no, that was the only option I had, what’s the point of life?" Mr Lane told Sky News autism clinicians are often the subject of online harassment if they raise their concerns.
