The music industry is calling for a 'Blackout Tuesday' in response to the death of George Floyd

The music industry is calling for a"Blackout Tuesday" in response to the death of George Floyd.

On Friday , less than a week after Floyd was suffocated by a Minneapolis police officer during an arrest, numerous music companies and artists began spreading a message on social media calling for “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect with out community" and “an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change.”

"As gatekeepers of the culture, it's our responsibility to not only come together to celebrate the wins, but also hold each other up during loss," reads the statement, which is being circulated under the hashtag #TheShowMustBePaused.Among those reposting the message are Apple Music's Ebro Darden, former Hot 97 music programming director Karlie Hustle, British record label Dirty Hit, and independent distributor EMPIRE.

"All of my shows are cancelled. I will air replays of conversations with community activists, politicians and revolutionary music," Darden captioned his post on Instagram. Earlier this week, a video of Floyd's death surfaced showing Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on the neck of Floyd for eight minutes. Chauvin was later charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Floyd.

why wasn't there such outrage from the celebs/music industry when Daniel Shaver was murdered by Police ? who's going to help the shop owners/many who are immigrants & blacks & have no insurance & who now will be financially destroyed due to the behaviour of ' protesters' ?

It would be better to have a day where you support black artists. There’s independent black artists who live day to day. Your white guilt is taking money away from black people... and for what reason

Please be mindful that the good intentions of BlackOutTuesday may backfire as will lead to no or less exposure of corruption going on especially at protests through social media.

Tuesday June 02 is the Music industry blackout. Please watch this clip and learn with the music industry is doing to support African American artists.

I feel like only people who listen to black artists will participate... then we will just see less representation for black people on the charts

idea - instead of going silent tomorrow, hand over your social media accounts/platform to black voices from your community

Reconnect with community by protecting them ( and all businesses, large and small) from the AntifaTerrorists you mean? I bloody well hope so as otherwise you are at risk of inciting more Riots2020 riots
