Cinemas will be allowed to reopen soon, but will social distancing restrictions make it viable?

Cinemas hope to bounce back once social distancing measures ease."Nobody is going to open a cinema under that 20 maximum — it's just not going to happen, you won't pay for the air-conditioning," he said.

"We are weighing up the option either to reopen on June 8 if we do limited days, limited screens and limited times, or if we wait until stage three," spokesperson Deanna Wallis said.Ms Wallis said to welcome back audiences it needs the spaces between audience members to be reduced to one metre or 1.5-metres, instead of one person per four square metres.

The last time we visited a cinema (my wife had a voucher), we had the place to ourselves.

Isn’t the real issue the general grubbiness of Melbourne people? The era of the daily shower is long gone?

You kidding i haven't sat in a full cinema since the early 90s, never more than 12 people.

Last two times I was a cinemas there were only 6 to 10 people there anyway, so social distancing shouldn't be an issue.

These might make a comeback

There's not many sessions you have to worry about distancing in 'normal' times, so it shd be ok.

Cinemas are an unnecessary risk. No thanks.

Oh goody I can pay 20-30 dollars to sit amongst a group and probably catch the virus

No, they will make it unviable.

FatherBob For god's sake, the caveat has always been stand 3 feet from PEOPLE WHO ARE SNEEZING, when is the idiot ABC going to stop this brainless nonsense.

Of course NOT, it's as bad as lockdown, maybe even worse. The same ploy to destroy society but by deceptively pretending to care for people. Totally disgraceful. Has anyone even questioned the scientific rationale of this absurdly concocted, rubbish concept 'social distancing'?

Win win. Nobody sitting next to me and the big screen! 👍🏽

I’d rather be in a cinema than the coffee line I was in this morning where the 3 active wear clad ladies stood in a group within 20 cm behind me.

Psssst... There are not many new films coming down the pipeline while the rest of the world is out of action

We can't lose the movie experience for an outing. Must get going again.

I guess that's up to the individual cinemas to decide

We don’t need to go to cinemas like our gov has shown it’s ok to pirate content

WOOHOOO. I miss the cinema popcorn. I just cannot replicate it at home.

I doubt cinemas were financially viable before corona so it makes no difference.

Um. Yes.

Is fascist Dan giving us a little more freedom.

All fun n games until somebody sneezes. 🤧

At $20 for popcorn and a drink, probably.

I worked as an usher at a multiplex and what I saw indicated social distancing wouldn't now be too much of an issue with 5 people in some theaters. Even with popular movies, all they'd have to do is exclusively play it on every screen, SD and stall the other features temporarily.

Can't wait. No size home tv can beat cinema experience. How it might work. 1. Chequered board seating 2. Hand sanitizer on entry 3. Disinfectant vipes for seat 4. Temperature check on entry 5. Online only tickets purchase so no ques It will be safer than bus or train.

Well the picture theatre near us sometimes only have 50 pl so it may , you should be asking this question re Restaurants, how could they make living pay staff, who wants to sit 1, 50 m apart and chat ,morrison appaling snap back slogan young people believe that nonsense

Honestly they should be one of the last industries to start back up. Lack of ventilation and filtration combined with close quarters is probably not the best situation to kick off at the beginning of releasing lockdowns.

Cinemas should be turned into homeless shelters or parking lots or parks

State's have to abide by the federal parliament' constitution im well aware of the fake green constitution..our constitution is the red constitution of the commonwealth. Not the fake a edited version. With parts removed. Victorian commonwealth constitution or its unlawful

Apart from Fri/Sat nights, most sessions you can have a whole row to yourself.
