With coronavirus lockdowns easing but few new movies to show, some cinemas plan to reopen with classics including 'Jaws,' 'Back to the Future' and 'Psycho'

For such older titles, studios are planning to take as little as 30% of ticket revenue, according to people familiar with the matter, a discount from the typical 50-50 split on new films, which have production and marketing budgets that studios need to recoup.

brianstelter Movie theaters? No thank you.

brianstelter Better install HEPA filters in your HVAC.

Some movies are best watched on super huge screens in theaters with great sound systems. The Poseidon Adventure, Titanic, The Sound of Music....

Nah.

brianstelter Fat chance I'm going into a movie theatre.

brianstelter You have to be next level stupid to go to a theater during a pandemic to pay to watch what is on TV on any given day.

Meh

Good idea. Still not interested in people-ing. You'll all wait until consumers are ready. There is no other choice.

Why would I go to a movie theater when I have a 65 inch 4K UHD TV mounted on the wall and a voice command controller. I can virtually watch any movie I choose to watch, and the popcorn is so much better and cheaper. CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC

Maybe they can start by cleaning the seats really well.

Well, well.📐

I’m in

This is so bizarre to me. This isn't some inconvenience. People are actually dying. I'm not going. No one should.

I'm not going even when its free.

Bring back Drive-In Movie Theaters.

Play the Prayer.

Give me a dolorean instead

D E F L A T I O N

Great idea. I’ll be at the theatre for the 1st showing of just about anything. Back to PRE-Wuhan life. F$&k a “new normal.”

If BOLLYWOOD could bring back Black and White Era too not only social distancing will be maintained but the beauty of oldtimers will make Bollywood rediscover beauty instead if doling out scaremongering movies same for Sandalwiid, Tollywood and all woods in India

Is there a vaccine? Is there a cure?

So, we're simply supposed to pretend that there isn't a pandemic because Dear Leader misses his pep rallies and golf? How about we all listen to the experts and just let him go back to golf?

I bet they won't bring back 80's concession pricing though. lol.

I won't be caught dead crammed into a movie theater. I love the fact that drive-in movie theatres are actually coming back right now.

That would be fun! Good idea.

just fold up already.

I paid money to see Singing in the Rain on big screen.

I say movies such as Jaws and Star Wars in the theater as a child. Would Love to relive that experience.

So much of what Hollywood produces is crappy remakes anyway perhaps no one will notice.

Entrepreneurial genius at work. Truly inspired idea.

People enticed to risk their health to gather in a dark, closed room with strangers for Marty McFly & “you’re gonna need a bigger boat” 🦈, packaged as “retro?” What’s “classic” is Hollywood studio mentality - offering audiences little diversity. COVID19 TheaterReopeningSoWhite

Entrepenureal genius at work. Truly inspired idea. Respect.

They could have free admission bit still going to gouge people on concessions

Hopefully other sectors can turn back the hand on prices too

Our future is up to us.

Operating at breakeven point won’t carry them far. They need a solidified POA. Stop farting ideas into the wind

“I lost this foot after I got covid at the Cinemark 16 during a revival showing of Dragonheart.”

)

back from the past here for the future stuck in the present lol

There is no 50/50 split...ever

Michael_Heaver FFS more repeats than the BBC !

Fact, quality will improve drastically

Michael_Heaver Yeah, NO, I think People have watched Enough Movies in their Self Isolation, they want to go out, take a walk, see family, have barbecues, go to the beach, play sports, etc! Watching Movies? Ummmm, NO!

Back to the Future - all-time favorite!

Add Dr. Strangelove to the list!

Jaws, a movie about a mayor putting the public in danger by refusing to shut down amusements despite a present threat because it would take a toll on the economy, a not at all ironic choice.

Who cares? I didn’t go before the crisis.

They could show a movie chronicling Dipstick Don’s term as POTUS. The movie is called Being There. It is a true to life caricature of Dipstick Don. The name of the character is changed to Chance “ the gardener “.

🎬「バックトゥザフューチャー」などはクラシック映画なんだね。

I would have thought Outbreak, 28 Days Later and Carriers.

Risking your future for the sake of nostalgia? I'm in!

Who cares. 🖕🏻the movie industry.

Jaws is perfect
